Meet Anđelko
Meet our colleague Anđelko Benković who works in the Shipping Department with 16 colleagues. Anđelko particularly highlights the great atmosphere at work and his superiors who, he says, value the continuous development of each employee.
Anđelko, how long have you been working at Knauf Insulation and can you describe a typical workday?
I've been working in the Shipping Department for a full 8 years where, together with a part of the warehouse, there are 16 of us. As for my average workday, it normally starts at 6 AM and lasts until 2 PM. As stated in my contract, I've been working as a shipping worker for the past five years. However, for the past year, I've been replacing the shipping coordinator because they've been on sick leave, so I currently have a bit more responsibilities than usual. Currently, my scope of work includes coordinating all loading and unloading that comes to our company and managing the team, i.e. organizing the work.
As you said, you have new responsibilities and duties since last year. What would you highlight as the biggest challenge in your job?
As the biggest challenge, I would highlight making decisions when it comes to a problem where a relatively quick reaction is needed.
Looking back eight years, are you satisfied with the development of your career at Knauf Insulation?
Yes! I can say that I am satisfied because no day is monotonous. Of course, there is some routine, but something new always happens that makes the day interesting. Also, the employer, or rather my superiors, appreciate the continuous development of employees. Last year, I was one of the four employees of the year for which I was awarded a recognition and a financial reward. When I came to Knauf Insulation, I was told that I was coming as a replacement for a month or two due to the absence of an employee on sick leave, and here I am, eight years later. In essence, it's not that many years, but still, eight years ago I didn't expect to stay that long.
Have the expectations you may have had when you first came to the company been exceeded?
When I first came to the company, I had certain expectations and ambitions. Our company offers numerous opportunities for growth and development, which is great, because my ambitions always go one step further. I believe that this is quite normal because human nature is to always strive for higher goals. Therefore, although I am satisfied with my progress and achievements in the company, there is always a desire for challenges and even greater success.
What would you highlight as the biggest advantage of Knauf Insulation?
Apart from the salary, which is the biggest motivation for most people to work, I would also highlight recognition, understanding from superiors, effort, dedication to work, and the excellent results of our effort and work. For example, once we had an audit conducted by our group, which brought together visitors from abroad. My supervisor recognized my knowledge of the English language, so the next time we went together to Slovakia to our other company.
Also, as an ambassador of Knauf Insulation, I work on some projects with which we want to increase the satisfaction of our employees. And not to burden them with additional work, but to relieve them and enrich their private lives. I think that is the goal that Knauf Insulation strives for. For example, in the three companies where I worked before Knauf Insulation, there was no such attitude towards people. Knauf Insulation works on values, employee ideas are supported, they are expected to be owners of their own processes so that they are as familiar and involved in work processes as possible. This is not the case in smaller companies, there it is as the boss says and there is no other way.
Knauf Insulation offers employees a large number of benefits. What is most important to you?
I may have already mentioned it, but the most important thing for me is safety at work. That's definitely number one. You do your job safely and you go home to your family. Of course, other programs that are offered are also important. For example, why wouldn't we go for a medical check-up to check our health? Most people don't go to the doctor on their own, but only when something creaks.
